How to get your business back on track in the last quarter of the year

Did you know it may still be possible to get your business back on track for the end of the year? Don’t write off your goals just yet. With careful strategic planning you may still be able to hit your targets.

Here’s how.

Assess your situation

You’ve more than likely been burying your head in the sand and trying not to think about the position your business is currently in. If you don’t have a bookkeeper or an accountant looking after your accounts you can easily avoid delving into your finances. The only problem with this is, if you don’t face up to your current situation you will continue to plod along doing the same old things without making any changes. Repeating the same processes time after time that aren’t getting results just means your situation will never get better.

Facing the reality of your finances means that you can take action head on.

Hire a bookkeeper and/or an accountant

Investing in a bookkeeper or an accountant will give you financial clarity. We produce insightful management reports for our clients so that they’re always aware of their financial position. This allows them to make accurate and sensible business decisions based on facts. These reports give you an insight into the future health of your business, this allows you to assess and review your situation accordingly and make appropriate changes.

Your bookkeeper will also help you to monitor your cash flow, this is essential for business success. Your business may be profitable but without a steady cash flow it can cause all kinds of financial problems for you. There are various steps you can put in place in order to improve your cash flow health.

Goals

When setting out your goals they need to be flexible. Yes you’d like to achieve your goals by a certain point in time, but things in business don’t always go to plan. You need to be open minded and ready to make changes in order to reflect your current situation. If you don’t review your goals then they just keep getting further out of reach, there’s nothing wrong with shifting the goal posts from time to time.

Marketing

Do you have a marketing strategy? Every business should have one. A marketing strategy sets out how you want to generate leads and what you aim to achieve by doing so. If your marketing strategy isn’t working 4 months down the line then it’s best to review. Find out what has worked well and what hasn’t and make appropriate changes to suit the market. You never know, these last few months of the year may be your best so far!

Plan ahead

Don’t wait for the new year to make a plan for next year. Start mapping out what you want to achieve. Reflect on what you have achieved this year, even if you haven’t hit all your targets, there will still be milestones you have achieved. Concentrate on the areas of your business which need you most. Delegate tasks such as admin and bookkeeping so you can concentrate on your area of expertise and growing your business.

Remember repeating the same things will always achieve the same results. Make the change today and get your business back on track.
